The Kent County FA in conjunction with Goals Soccer Centre, Dartford hosted their annual FA Charter Standard clubs 5-a-side football tournament on Sunday 5 August 2007 in the glorious sunshine.
The prestigious tournament was only open to clubs who have achieved or are actively working towards the FA Charter Standard Club ‘Kite Mark’ award and therefore, really was a high class event.
In order to accommodate the most progressive football clubs within Kent we teamed up with Goals Soccer Centre in Dartford. All of the pitches feature the latest 3rd generation rubber crumb technology which means that the artificial surface looks, feels and plays just like real grass. For more information, including a virtual tour of the facility, visit the Goals website (www.goalsfootball.co.uk).
The tournament was officiated by FA qualified referees and once the league standings were finalised from the matches in the morning there was a Cup competition in the afternoon. There were 32 teams competing in the tournament and the honours went to the following teams:
Under 12 girls Runners Up: Ebbsfleet United FC Winners: Hugin Vikings FC
Under 12 boys Runners Up: Barming Youth FC Winners: Ashford Borough FC
Under 14 boys Runners Up: Margate Youth FC Winners: Ashford Borough FC
Under 16 boys Runners Up: Bearsted FC Winners: Corinthian FC
Kent County FA Football Development Officer, Paul Dolan stated that “the event was a great success with some superb football from all the teams. The standard of behaviour displayed by the players, coaches and spectators was impeccable and they were all a credit to their respective clubs”. The event was free for clubs as a reward from the Kent County FA for working so hard to achieve the FA Charter Standard award. The local McDonalds restaurant provided support to the event with water and fruit bags.
