Kent’s Coaches in safe hands

Kent Coach Association members were welcomed to Cobdown Sports and Social Club for the member’s summer workshop this Sunday (29 July 2007).

Over forty members attended the workshop which was tutored by Assistant National Goalkeeping Coach Tony Parks.

Ex Tottenham Hotspurs stopper, Parks who shot to fame when he saved the deciding penalty in the 1984 UEFA Cup Final works with England Youth Goalkeepers and is an FA Tutor.

The workshop concentrated on goalkeeping with coaches witnessing twenty technical practices.

The practices were designed to help Level 1 and 2 coaches pick up some new training ideas for their goalkeepers.

New Kent Coach Association member Jack Gray praised the workshop, “The workshop was excellent with Tony sharing a lot of good practice”.

The workshop saw six young goalkeepers aged ten to eighteen years demonstrate and assist Tony with the drills which included a warm up as well as drills on footwork and handling.

Parks who is set to travel with the England under 17’s squad for the Under-17 World Cup in Korea ’thanked’ the young stoppers by saying “It was a great day and working with the young keepers was a pleasure. They all worked extremely hard and the standard of keeping was very impressive”.

The Kent Coach Association now boasts over two-hundred member’s and aims to raise the standard and knowledge of coaches in the county.

Football Development Administrator and workshop organiser, Lee Suter said “I believe the coaches really enjoyed the workshop with this being one of the most popular. I hope this has encouraged them to carry on developing they own experiences and ideas.”

Membership is £10.00 for the year with all coaches benefiting from invites to regular workshops, Email alerts, Association pin badge, T-Shirt and a quarterly development newsletter.

The Kent County FA would to thank Tony for tutoring the workshop and wish him and the Under 17 squad all the best at the World Cup in August.
