Development - take your skills to the next level

Speed, Agility and Quickness

The Kent County Football Development Team held its second workshop on May 15.

The workshop was delivered by Chris Daisy and Elaine Solecki.

Chris and Elaine carry out coaching across the county and both coach at the Gillingham girls centre of excellence.

Chris coaches a 20 minute Speed, Agility and Quickness (SAQ) workshop at the start of each train session with all the girls. Many of the other centres of excellences including Charlton and Fulham were very impressed with the level of fitness the girls showed throughout the season..

SAQ is an essential part in the development of athletes the world over.

Based on kinesthetic programming, the SAQ workout utilizes specifically designed equipment to stimulate the Nero-muscular system in a way that greatly improves multi-directional movement, hand eye co-ordination, balance, mobility and power.

SAQ can be used on a one to one personal training basis or can now be delivered as a multi-station class, which transcends gender, ability and fitness barriers.

The British Olympic Association, The Rugby Football Union and the Football Association have all endorsed the SAQ training concept.

The Kent FA Coaches Association Workshop was attended by 25 members of the coaches association.

Chris gave a talk first on the merits of SAQ and then did a practical session. Everybody enjoyed the practical session. It was felt that this type of training encouraged quick feet and quick thinking.

The equipment used was ladders and low hurdles which are easily transported and the area required for training can be small.
