Whys of Coaching workshop

On the 14th August, 2005 The Kent Coaches Association held its Third workshop.  Mike Trusson delivered the session “The Why’s of coaching”.

Mike, Ex-pro footballer, delivered an excellent session, demonstrating and explaining why we coach players to carry out certain techniques and exercises.

The coaches who attended really enjoyed it!

Coach Terry Uings said “I enjoyed the day, I thought everyone joined in well with both the theory session and the practical session on the football pitch was excellent. I certainly came away from the workshop more confident knowing I could now answer questions about the whys of coaching. The day was very well run and enjoyable workshop. I think that everyone who attended took something away with them, well done.”

Another participant Terry Gooding said “Val thanks for all the hard work you put into Organising Sundays get together. I personally always get a lot out of the sessions.

Sometimes it is minor points that I pick up but it is those small points that I think help you to stand out as a good coach. With regard to Truss's session, I particularly liked the way he showed you can build up a skill (switching play) whilst emphasising the "why" players do what they do. I find, because I played football for a few years I assume my kids understand why they do things when really they do not.”

Vince Luckhurst commented “Once again I enjoyed Sundays workshop.  Mike’s session was a different format to Damian’s, but I think they both worked really well.  The only note of disappointment is that they go so quickly!  Maybe this is because that although we may have played football for the last 20, 30, 40 years, you only start to understand it properly when you start coaching and listening to those who have played/coached at the highest level.  I get a real buzz when I’m involved with anybody with a real passion for football and it never fades because there are so many questions to ask.
