Race Equality Workshop

The workshop and has been designed to assist in developing an understanding of the needs of various minority groups, and how best to plan football activity to be inclusive.

The 3-hour workshop covers consultation, developing better links with ethnic minority groups as well as looking at some of the cultural and religious differences that have an impact on someone’s involvement in football.

The workshop is aimed at all those who are developing opportunities for ethnic minorities to participate in football and is designed to build confidence when working with minority and emerging communities. It covers legislation, best practice and actions to take to promote inclusive football. It will support staff and volunteers who may deal with people from ethnic minorities either face-to-face or on the telephone.

The benefits for those attending include gaining:

  • Examples of best practice in relation to Race Equality and football in clubs and organisation

  • Recognition of the implications of the Race Relations Act in relation to grassroots football

  • Insight in to the barriers preventing ethnic minorities being fully involved in grassroots football

  • Guidance on the appropriate language associated with Race Equality Recognition of and valuing the differences and similarities between cultures, faiths and ethnic groups and the impact of these on football

  • Recognition of the importance of consultation with ethnic minorities

  • Recognition of poor practice in Race Equality and ways to assertively challenge this

  • Support to produce an action plan to actively promote equality in the club or organisation
