
On Saturday 4th July the Kent FA hosted the South East regional qualifying tournament for the National Ability Counts Finals, in partnership with Maidstone United Football Club.
The tournament was held at Cobdown Sports and Social Club in Aylesford and attracted twelve 7aside disability football teams from across the South East region. The festival divided the teams into three different ability banded competitions and the teams that participated were as follows:
Premiership Tournament Brighton and Hove Albion FC MK Dons DFC Thanet Galaxy DFC Folkestone Invicta DFC
Championship Tournament Larkfield DFC Maidstone United FC St Alban’s City Youth DFC Thanet Galaxy DFC
League Tournament Brighton and Hove Albion DFC (A) Brighton and Hove Albion DFC (B) St Margaret’s FC St Alban’s City Youth DFC
The event was blessed with good weather which added to the enjoyment of the day. Football Development Officer Stephanie Gadd said “it was great to see teams from Kent and the surrounding counties take parting this prestigious event. Disability football has snowballed in Kent in the last four years from nothing to having a thriving Disability League, a Disability Centre of Excellence and high profile tournaments such as this one”. All three divisions operated on a league basis and were eagerly contested affairs. The eventual winners and runners up were as follows:
Premiership Winners – MK Dons DFC Runners Up – Brighton and Hove Albion FC
Championship Winners – St Albans’s City Youth DFC Runner Up – Larkfield DFC
League Winners – Brighton and Hove Albion FC Runners Up – St Alban’s City Youth DFC
Congratulations to all the winners who will now go through to compete the National Abiltiy Counts Finals at the end of July.
