Child Protection

Safeguarding children is high on The Kent FA's agenda. The goal is to have someone at every club in the county aware of child protection and best practice, whether it's a Premiership Academy or a Sunday morning park side.

Safeguarding children is about doing things the right way, doing things properly. It's about allowing children to enjoy the game without abuse of any kind. That means bullying, physical, emotional or sexual abuse and neglect.

The Kent FA believes football can have a powerful positive influence on children. But that means everyone involved in football must take on the responsibility of looking after those children that want to play the game.

As part of the Football Association’s policy (based on Government Legislation) to ensure that Children and vulnerable persons are safeguarded whilst participating in football it has been ruled that with effect from the start of season 2008/09 it will be mandatory for each club to have a Club Welfare Officer in place.

All officials who are involved in the football have a legal and moral responsibility to ensure the safety and protection of children and vulnerable persons – hence the decision outlined above.

The Welfare Officer (CWO) will hold a position of significant responsibility therefore it is essential that all appointees are ‘fit and proper persons’ to hold such a position.
