Excellent start sees opening win

This was a memorable opening game of the Home Counties League match as the Kent under 16 representative team produced a fine win against Sussex.

Kent started the brighter and opened the scoring within four minutes, when Steve Brading made an excellent run down the right which saw the visiting keeper attempt to clear, only for Perry Scofield-Lamoon to set up Harry Harding who drilled the ball home for Kent to take an early lead.

The Kent players grew in confidence but the bigger more physical Sussex team created a number of chances and it took a fantastic low-diving save from Ryan Woods to keep Kent in the lead.

With captain Michael Scott and Jack Sparrow growing in confidence in defence Kent continued to push forward.

Striker Scott Byers movement up front was causing the visitors problems and on thirty-four minutes a Kent corner dropped to Sparrow who smashed the ball past the Sussex keeper.

On 52 minutes, a superb run and cross from Scott, saw Perry Scofield-Lamoon arrive in the box to head the ball into the corner of the goal to secure the win for the home side.

With Karl Dent winning everything in the middle, Kent were able to introduce, Jack Rankin, Aidan Sherlock, Charlie Sweetman, Josh Hughes and Josh Bryant, into the fray and all quickly made their mark on the game.

Kent looked to score as the team developed an understanding which impressed on lookers.

Manager, Ken Brooke said “This was an excellent start to the season, and we can go to Surrey next Sunday with our confidence high.”
