County TeamsGritty Under 16's win again
Monday, 12 November 2007.
Kent under 16 representative team continued last weeks fine win with successive win in the Home Counties Competitions with a hard fought victory against Surrey.
Kent faced a difficult test against strong opponents but Kent performed with determination and grit to grind out a win.
Despite an uneven surface Kent played some neat football with man of the match, Harry Harding causing the home side trouble down the right.
The busy Harding and forward Perry Scolfield-Lamoon went close early on with Billy Holland threatening down the left of the pitch.
The visitors defence was tested on a few occasions with keeper Ryan Woods building on his good form with some vital saves.
At half time Kent looked to build on the good start and the lead on 53 minutes when Harding burst through the home defence and calmly slotted the ball past the Surrey keeper.
The visitors continued to defend as a unit thanks to heroic performances from Jack Sparrow and Michael Scott who defended against the threat of the Surrey attack which ensured a second successive clean sheet.
Kent introduced Charlie Sweetman who provided the team with a bit of energy to see the win through.
A delighted Kent Manager, Ken Brooke said “I was delighted with the way the lads ground out the result on a pitch that was in complete contrast to last week. It shows that they have the ability to adapt their game and in the end I was really pleased with the win. It gives us an excellent chance to build on a really promising start."
Kent are now looking forward to taking on London FA on 2 December 2007.
