On Wednesday, 25 June the annual Kent Youth Games were held at Sevenoaks School.
The Games were organised by Kent County Council's Sport Leisure and Olympics Service in partnership with the Children, Families, Health and Education Service and is sponsored by P&O Ferries.
The event itself is aimed at giving school children the opportunity to participate in a range of different sports from Boccia to cycling, from new age curling to football.
This year’s event proved to be the biggest and best so far with 11 schools from various School Sport Partnerships competing in the football competition.
New for this year’s football event was the introduction of the League competition which was aimed at giving less able players the opportunity to enjoy football competition against players of a similar ability. Five Acre Wood and Bower Grove took part in the League competition and both sets of players seemed to thoroughly enjoy the two games they played against each other.
In the Championship competition 11 teams from 10 schools from across the county took part and were divided into two different groups. The group stages saw some great football played with all the children enjoying the atmosphere of the day. The teams who finished in the top four places in their group then entered the play off stages to decide the final places.

Football Development Officer Stephanie Gadd said “This year was my first experience of the Kent Youth Games and it had been a great day for everyone involved. I have seen some great football played and all the children seemed to have a very enjoyable day. I must say a big thank you to Maidstone Rangers FC for all there help setting up the event too”.
A big thank you must also go to all the volunteers who helped on the day, in particular the students from Aylesford Sports College who did an excellent job collating all the score cards and ensuring the day ran smoothly.
