What is Futsal?
If you enjoy playing football, then you’ll love Futsal! It enhances all the exciting and enjoyable aspects of a traditional football match and squeezes them all into 40 minutes of non-stop, free-flowing Futsal action!
Futsal is a game that develops individual close ball skills because of the size of the pitch, speed of play, rules and the smaller heavier Futsal ball. Players are therefore encouraged to develop speed of thought and quick reflexes in order to play the game effectively.
According to FIFA statistics over 25 million people play Futsal worldwide. It is estimated that in Italy around 4 million people play Futsal as opposed to 1 million full-sided players and Futsal is also the number 1 game in Portuguese schools and universities.
History of Futsal
Originating from Brazil Futsal has attributed to the success that the 11-a-side national team has had in football. Pele, Rivelino, Falcao and Zico who were leading players of their time all played Futsal at some time in their development. Currently some of the best football players including Ronaldinho, Robinho, Ronaldo and Deco all owe there superior talents to playing Futsal in their formative years
If you would like to get involved there are a series of preseason friendlies for teams and players to come along and get to know the rules and style of futsal.
