Kent County FA Charter Standard club coaches braved the cold conditions to attend an in-service event at Faversham Town Football Club on 5 and 12 January 2009.
Club coaches were invited to attend the new The FA Learning Introductory Module – Age Appropriate Coaching Module which provides coaches with an opportunity to develop an awareness of both the practical and theoretical aspects of coaching young players, specifically in the 5-11 age group.
Twenty coaches attended the module which has been developed by FA Learning using expertise from a variety of FA staff and experienced coaches.
Ray Turner who coaches the Under 18 squad at Faversham Town praised the module by saying ‘The tutors provided us with some great tips and advice which is transferable to grassroots coaching and will prove a real benefit to coaches and young players’.
On successful completion of the module coaches were able to define movement skills while incorporating Agility, Balance & Co-ordination and their relevance to the game as well as explaining & demonstrating how technique can be used to help players perform a skill,
FA Regional Coach Development Manager, Ben Bartlett explained ‘The course is a brilliant introduction to the new Youth Coaching Awards and demonstrates how to use games to help players understanding of football and how we as coaches can manage difference in our groups’.
The In-service training events are one of many benefits that the County FA offers to new and existing Charter Standard Clubs with clubs receiving Umbro kit/equipment vouchers, an FA Charter Standard plaque, the use of The FA Crest/logo and continued coaching support.
Kent County FA Football Development Officer, Lee Suter went on to say “Club development is a high priority to the Kent County FA and as an Association we are committed to football development and we continue to work with existing clubs who hold the prestigious award as well as others with ambitions to achieve the kite mark”.
