Maidstone United FC has been named Deaf Friendly Club of the Year in a national competition. The Club beat more than 50 professional and grassroots clubs to walk off with the prestigious award.
Maidstone United FC set up a disability section 5 years ago and now has over 70 players with a wide range of disabilities.
Disability Officer for the Kent County Football Association Stephanie Gadd said
“ This is a fantastic achievement for Maidstone United FC. They’ve worked tremendously hard to make the club more accessible for deaf players so the award is thoroughly deserved.”
The deaf section of the club was first set up in 2007 and training sessions are held weekly for deaf kids between the ages of 8 and 16. The facility is so popular that an Under 16 girls’ team has now been formed and is already proving a force to be reckoned with!
