Tonbridge Angels lift Intermediate Cup
The Intermediate Cup, featuring reserve teams of clubs playing in the Senior and Intermediate Kent FA competitions, was taken back to West Kent last night following a 2-0 victory over Medway’s Hollands & Blair.
The game was a competitive affair with both sides looking to play open and attacking football. Early opportunities fell to Hollands & Blair but a combination of last-ditch defending and some excellent goalkeeping meant they were unable to capitalise on their chances. Tonbridge started to take control later in the half and created several chances, including a spectacular volley from the edge of the box that Leadsham in the Hollands & Blair net did well to tip onto the bar and away for a corner kick. Neither side was able to find the net, and went into the break with nothing to separate the sides at 0-0.
The second half started in equally combative fashion, and it was mid-way through the half before Tonbridge broke the deadlock. Under pressure from Tonbridge’s forwards, Hollands & Blair goalkeeper Leadsham failed to deal with a lofted ball into the box and his attempted clearance fell to Matt Parsons, who, with Leadsham stranded, found the empty net from just outside the area. Tonbridge added a second goal shortly afterwards to seal a closely fought but deserved victory.
