Welling Town FC Lift the Kent Reliance Junior Cup A!
Ashford FC 0 - 3 Welling Town FC
Welling came out on top in this clash of new teams, Welling formed in 2014 while Ashford FC in 2016. Welling had secured promotion & this was the icing on the cake & a well deserved victory.
The first half was a bit cagey as both sides treated each won with too much respect but Welling were slightly the better. In the 8th minute Dami Oni put Mehmet Piro through in the area but his shot was saved by James Atkins. In the 10th minute a long clearance by Atkins forced the Welling defence to a bad clearance as it went straight to Swarneem Gurung but his shot went wide. In the 13th minute Dom Elms on the right crossed to the back post where Ryan Golding was & his header came back of the post. Two minutes later a cross into the area came out to Ricky Hepburn but his snap shot went wide.
The second half was only seconds old when a corner into the 6 yard box saw Golding on his own head over the bar. In the 58th minute Jamie Aides passed out to Craig Haynes & his low cross was met by Ben Hunt 6 yards out but under pressure his flicked shot went wide & this would be Ashford’s last real chance. After this Welling had all the chances, in the 62nd minute Golding was put through on the left but his shot from 10 yards hit the side netting. Three minutes later Brima Daramy who had only been on for two minutes raced clear beating the off side trap & went into area before dinking the ball over the onrushing Atkins. Seven minutes later Daramy had a glorious chance to double the lead but from 12 yards he headed over the bar. Another half chance arrived in the 79th minute when a free kick into the Ashford area was half cleared to Joel Weston who tried his luck from 20 yards & saw the ball come back off the cross bar. In the 84th minute Daramy doubled the lead when a cross from the left into the 6 yard box saw him head into the back of the net, then in the 90th minute Daramy battling with the defenders won the ball went into the area & then passed sideways for the prolific Jon Main who from 5 yards side footed it in.
