SE Dons Lift Kent Sunday Premier Silverware!

Kent Sunday Premier Cup - Sun FC 0-4 Se Dons FC

SE Dons won the Premier Cup for the first time with a ruthless destruction of Sun FC who never really recovered from a first half from hell in front of a crowd of over 2,000!

Four behind at the break to goals from Ryan Dolby, Jack Sammoutis, Zak Ansah and Abdul Aziz-Iyoubi and two men down – George Snelling sent off for stamping shortly before Sammoutis’ striker and James Trueman – who continued the first half protests after the half time whistle and was shown a second yellow card as the players left the field.

The second half was damage limitation, but as has been said many times by then the damage had been done!

Dons got off to the dream start after only two minutes when Dolby cut in from the right to gloriously find the bottom corner of the net to start what proved to be a nightmare 45 minutes for Sun.

Eighteen minutes in and Sun were reduced to ten men as the skipper headed for an “early bath” – given a straight red card by referee Doyle for what appeared from the stands to be a stamp on Nathan Palmer.

Soon after the lead was doubled as Sammoutis brilliantly made room for himself before drilling the ball beyond the reach of Dan Houckham and into the bottom corner of the Sun’s net.

Two soon became three as Ansah demonstrated why he is one of the most feared strikers in the League as he drilled home from the edge of the box and Sun’s miserable first half was compounded still further ten minutes from the break when Iyoubi’s cross looped over Houckham and dropped into the net

Dons did enjoy some late half possession when Dave Briant was denied after Trueman’s shot had been well saved; keeper George Kamarusi then got in a muddle with a corner and then a clearance ricocheted off Joe Denny forcing the big keeper to claw the ball away.

Suns first half misery was complete as the players left the field as Trueman said something the official didn’t like and was shown a second yellow card leaving Sun to face the mountain of being four goals and two men down.

Dons dominance continued at the start of the second half but keeper Houckham performed heroics keeping out Ansah, Nathan Palmer and then Dolby in successive attacks before the keeper spilled a clearance only to recover brilliantly to deny Dolby.

Still the chances kept coming – Nathan Palmer should have scored when well placed; Ryan Palmer had a free kick straight at the keeper and Timmy Babbington forced Houckham into yet another decent save.  But Houckham saved his best until the 88th minute when he somehow clawed out And Nwitua’s drive which appeared to be past the keeper before he reacted.

Ironically the closest that Sun came was in the final seconds when Joe Loft clipped the crossbar with a free kick but by then, the sun had well and truly set on the Kent Sunday Premier Cup for 2019 with SE Dons the deserved winners…
