Kent Rep Team Alumni Goes Pro!
From playing at left back for the Kent FA Representative Team last season, to starting for Coventry City FC this season, it has been a year of success for Kent’s Sam McCallum!
Sam started his youth football in Kent at Herne Bay FC before progressing through to their first team. Sam also made 4 appearances for the Kent FA U18 Representative Team, with an outstanding performance in the FA County Youth Cup performance against Cornwall FA in 2017. Following his grassroots development, Sam successfully trialled and signed a professional contract for Coventry City FC in August 2018, and made his full first team debut on the 12th January this year, having been on the bench for the previous three matches! He has also appeared in the England Schoolboys U18 squad.
Kent FA Competitions Officer, Matt Dixon said: “Sam was involved with the U18 Rep Team before I became the current Competitions Officer at Kent FA, but I watched the FA Youth Cup tie in November 2017 when he played for Kent against Cornwall FA at Margate FC and he stood out as a very accomplished player and his success with Coventry City comes as no surprise. With Sam’s progress at Coventry City coupled with Ross Johnstone from our U16 side last season being selected for the recent English Schools squad against Australia, it shows that County Representative Football can be a huge stepping stone for Players careers and I look forward to the next Kent Representative Player success story.”
We are delighted to have another success story coming from the Kent FA Representative Team. Kent FA prides itself on supporting the development of talented players in Kent. Playing for the Kent FA Representative Team has had a positive impact on Sam’s development, and in the future we hope that we can support more players to aspire and achieve progress through to professional football.
