After four pre-season friendlies this was the first match in the South East Counties Youth Championship and Kent couldn’t have asked for a better start as they opened the scoring within the first minute, Harrison Corns testing the keeper from long range, Ronald Sithole picked up the rebound and crossed low for George Wilkinson to tap home. The dream start got even better a minute later as the lead was doubled when Ronald Sithole fired across the keeper into the bottom corner.

The lead had grown to 3-0 by the 7th minute mark as Ronald Sithole scored his second of the match. The next ten minutes saw two good chances come and go as George Wilkinson fired over following up an Alfie Prior strike and Harrison Corns shot narrowly wide having been set up by Ronald Sithole. The fourth goal arrived just before the half hour mark and what a great goal it was, superb build up play found Sam Archibald on he left flank and his cross was met first time by Reiss Skeen who found the bottom right corner.

Confidence was flowing throughout the side and there was lovely football on display right across the team, George Wilkinson was denied a second goal by a great save and Ronald Sithole also just missed the target. As the match entered added time at the end of the first half Kent scored their fifth goal, Jayden Wilson popping up from left back to fire across the keeper into the far corner.

Kent made full use of their substitutes bench with all five coming on to start the second half and play followed a similar pattern with Kent dominating proceedings and goal number six arrived four minutes into the second half, Alfie Prior’s in swinging corner was prodded home by Sam Archibald. Bradley Ihionvien then had an incredible five minutes which saw him hit the post twice and see two other efforts well saved. Harry Sikirwayi also struck the post as Kent went in search of more goals and they grabbed goal number seven just before the hour mark with Bradley Ihionvien finally getting on the scoresheet as he got on the end of Alfie Prior’s free kick to find the back of the net.

Ronald Sithole completed his hat trick five minutes later, he found space following a short corner from Alfie Prior and his shot sailed over the keeper into the far corner. Further chances came and went and full credit must go to Guernsey who never stopped running all game and showed great commitment and sportsmanship throughout the match but in the end it was the attacking threat that Kent offered that proved too much as the hosts recorded the first three points of the season with an 8-0 victory.

Speaking after the match, Manager Ian Varley said “It was a really good start to the season, a really good performance, considering it was our first competitive game of the season it bodes well for the rest of the season”.
