Margate under-23s relied upon the woodwork before they took control and beat Rusthall Reserves.
Rusthall twice went close towards the end of the first half through George Montgomery and Michael Tubb but it was Margate who led at the break.
In first-half stoppage-time, striker Shaun Nketiah held his nerve to calmly convert a penalty.
After the restart, Rusthall went in search of a leveller, however Margate’s defence held strong and Mitch Harman found the bottom corner 16 minutes from time on the counter-attack to seal the win.
