From the age of 16 women can play at a number of levels in the football pyramid. Kent has over 75 women’s teams that are affiliated to them and compete at the various competitions including veterans.  Our pyramid below shows the teams competing in the 2023-2024 season and the level of football they play at.

For those women who are new to football or have previously played but cannot commit to the weekly training and matches that are involved in the 11-a-side game, there are recreational sessions that can accommodate you.

Location: St Edmunds School all weather pitches, Giles Lane, Canterbury CT2 8HU

Quote from session: "Bags’ sessions are relaxed, friendly and informal with a focus on getting fit, having fun and making friends. You don’t need to have played football before. The joy of the sessions is in not thinking about anything else for an hour. Everyone will make you feel welcome and encourage you to play and join in. It’s literally the best thing ever for both body and mind.”

Futsal is a fast-paced fun versions of indoor 5-a-side football that originated in Brazil.

The rules and equipment focus on ball skills, movement and quick passing. It’s a lot of fun and incredibly popular in Brazil, Spain, Italy and as player development for professional football clubs etc. In Kent we have a Women’s Futsal League that play on a regular basis and have a league setup as well as a recreational turn up and play session for those not ready to compete just yet.

Catherine Bradley leads on this exciting opportunity and can be contacted via Catherine.Bradley@kentdowns.org.uk or by visiting the website below
