Inspirational captain Sacha Stewart led VCD Athletic to an excellent win over Ebbsfleet at Maidstone’s Gallagher stadium.

Player of the Match Stewart was a rock at the heart of an industrious and determined VCD display, which was built around their hard work as much as their skill.

The only goal of the game came midway through the first half when Stewart’s quick free-kick found its way through to Ralitsa Nedeva, who fired home from 20 yards.

VCD were indebted to goalkeeper Sophie Brown for a magnificent save early in the second half to deny Deborah Lanipeken from point-blank range, while they could have added a second themselves with Deboragh Ogunbiyi and Esme Alaneme both going close.
