Hat Trick Hero Hamid Secures Victory For Kent

Kent FA 3 - 0 Essex FA

A hat trick from Hamid Ishola ensured Kent maintained their 100% record in this seasons U16 South East Counties Youth Championship with a 3-0 win over Essex FA at Corinthian FC. Having scored twice last week for the U18 team against Jersey, Hamid went one better this week ensuring he took home the match ball.

Kent U16s - December 2018

Recent heavy rain throughout the County meant most pitches were very heavy but credit to both teams for the football on display during the match.

Keen to build on the recent impressive 1-0 victory away against Middlesex, Kent were fast out of the blocks with Bobby Dunn orchestrating things in midfield. The first chance of the match came on 15 minutes when the visiting keeper, Jack Moore, denied Harry Sargent twice from close range. This only proved a temporary reprieve as just two minutes later Kent took the lead, Robbie Roberts played an exquisite ball through to Hamid Ishola who fired low beneath Jack Moore. Kayden Turner was proving a real handful in midfield and he had two great chances to increase the lead but on both occasions he fired over the bar. Connor McDonnell was called into action in the Kent goal on the half hour mark when he saved well from Ted Turnham as the visitors probed for the equaliser. The last chance of the half went to the Hosts but again Kayden Turner couldn’t keep his shot below the crossbar and so it was a solitary goal lead that Kent held at the interval.

Into the second half and again it was Kent on the ascendancy and two glorious chances to increase the lead went begging within the first ten minutes, both falling to striker Hamid Ishola. Firstly, his shot was saved by Jack Moore and moments later he headed wide after great work from Gerald Sithole. Kent were nearly made to pay for the missed chances as Tommy Ainsworth fired just wide for Essex. This proved a pivotal moment as seconds later Kent did get the second goal their play deserved and once again it Hamid Ishola with the goal, Bobby Dunn played a ball over the top for Hamid to run onto, he twisted and turned in the box before firing low into the bottom corner. With ten minutes remaining Hamid had a great chance for his hat trick but having rounded the keeper he could only fire wide of the goal. Billy Harrison & Kai Stephen combined well for Essex as they looked to get back into the match but Kai’s side footed effort went wide of the post. With time ticking down Hamid Ishola did get his and his side’s third goal of the match, his initial shot was saved but he was on hand to lash home the rebound to claim the matchball.

Another great performance from the squad as they head into the Festive break, Manager Ian Varley commented after the match “Really pleased with the performance and result! Again we dominated from start to finish and thankfully this time we were more ruthless in front of goal and kept another clean sheet. It’s been a very positive start to the campaign and hopefully we can carry that on in the New Year”.
