South Coast Trip Ends In Defeat

Sussex FA Ladies 7- 0 Kent FA Ladies

A night to forget for the Kent FA Ladies team as they fell to a 7-0 defeat away to Sussex FA in Lancing.

A squad depleted by work commitments meant Manager Dwayne Ellis only had 14 Players to select from which was further reduced to 12 due to travel problems by the time kick off arrived.

The hosts set the tone for the evening with an effort just wide of the post in the 5th minute from Ashley Teagan. Kent Captain Amy Russ had the first chance for the visitors but her long range effort was well saved by Lucy Apps in the Sussex goal. The opening goal arrived on twenty minutes and it was the impressive Ashley Teagan who scored with a superb strike into the top corner past Cara Davies. Kent then suffered a big blow when Charlie Myhill was forced off with an injured knee. Natasha Moloney was having a great game at the heart of the Kent defence as she time and again cut out threatening attacks from the hosts. Darcey Charlesworth saw her shot well saved as Kent pushed to get back into the match and on the cusp of halftime Amy Russ had a chance which flew narrowly over the bar but the hosts went into the Interval with a slender one goal lead.

Playing against the wind in the second half was tough for Kent as Sussex poured forward at every opportunity and they nearly extended their lead within the first minute of the second half, Skye Bacon’s cross caused chaos in the Kent box which saw Cara Davies forced into a fingertip save. Sussex got the second goal their play deserved just before the hour mark and again it was Ashley Teagan doing the damage to put her side 2-0 ahead. Amy Russ tried to provide the spark for her team and again saw her effort well saved as Kent worked hard to find a way back into the match but on 67 minutes their hopes were dashed when Sussex got their third goal of the match and yet again it was a great goal with Meghann Wingsutton finding the top corner from long range. Five minutes later and it was 4-0 as Skye Bacon beat two defenders and curled the ball into the far corner. 4-0 soon became 5-0 as Meghann Wingsutton continued the theme of wonder strikes with a peach into the top corner. Kent had two chances to grab themselves a consolation goal but both Amy Russ & Rachel Stevens were denied by Lucy Apps. Sussex substitute Hayley Bridge then got in on the scoring act as she grabbed herself two goals in the final ten minutes to leave the final score at 7-0.

A disappointing evening for the Kent FA squad and Management as they were beaten by a very good Sussex side.
