Update on Water Restrictions For Clubs

An important notice for all clubs across Kent.

You will have seen recently that South East Water has announced water restrictions for clubs from 00:01 on Friday 12 August until further notice, which will affect clubs in Kent.

More information can be found at:

The Grounds Management Association (GMA) have communicated directly with South East Water concerning sports turf management, and the following points have been communicated.

  • Sports pitches – The watering of grass or artificial surfaces may continue for sport or recreation (on the active strip/ playing area – not the whole grounds) during off-peak hours. Peak hours are 8 am - 10 am and 5 pm - 9 pm, and watering from a mains or mains fed supply should not occur during these hours.

  • Irrigation systems, sprinklers or hosepipes can continue to be used if the water source is from a private borehole, artificial lake, a well, or rainwater harvested. The Environment Agency regulates water abstraction from the ground and springs, and we suggest you contact them for any clarification about your rights to do this.

South East Water ask you to consider the current situation that we are in and that you conserve water wherever possible.

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Jeff Davis (Football Development Manager) at Jeff.Davis@KentFA.com, Daniel Bradley, GMA Regional Pitch Advisor DBradley@thegma.org.uk, or South East Water.
