Kent FA launches Kent Green United

Working with grassroots clubs to keep Kent green.

At the Kent FA, we are profoundly aware of our duty to support the playing environments of our Kent clubs and the communities. We understand football clubs' immense influence in society, and it's time to leverage that power for a greater cause – protecting our planet. Our planet faces significant environmental challenges, from plastic pollution to waste accumulation, and we must take action to secure a sustainable future for generations to come.

So Kent Green United has been created.

This initiative has been designed to unite football clubs across Kent. By joining Kent Green United, the greenest team in Kent, clubs will demonstrate their commitment to environmental responsibility and inspire members and fellow clubs. Kent Green United members will commit to carrying out simple, fun, and regular activities within their communities to make a positive difference in their local environment. This could be through club litter picks around their local grounds, club boot/kit swap shops, walking to training or matches to reduce carbon emissions or simply using a refillable water bottle, reducing plastic waste.

All clubs that sign up to join the greenest team in Kent and actively carry out activities will be entered into a prize draw at the end of the season for a chance to win some fantastic prizes for their club.

To help support the clubs on their green missions, we have joined forces with the following companies who support this initiative.

Chris Grindley of Kit4Causes said: “Since being founded in 2009, Kits4Causes has collected tens of thousands of items of unwanted football equipment and redistributed it to social development programs around the world. Whether it is an out-grown replica shirt or a full Sunday league kit, all donations are welcome and grateful received.

“To date, Kits4Causes has sent out over 75,000 to shirts to over 50 countries, giving your kits a new life along the way. To find out more visit www.kits4causes.org

Sally Ward from The Kent Resource Partnership commented: “We are delighted to support Kent Green United. We are dedicated to the reduction of waste and to ensuring a bright environmental future for us all. Let’s be ‘Kent Green United’ in our endeavours to create a better future environment.”

Christine Burke, Partnership Manager at DFDS, said: “DFDS are great supporters of the Kent Green United initiative. Climate action is a strategic priority within the company, with targets of a 45% reduction in CO2 emissions from ferries by 2030 and to be climate neutral by 2050. We all must contribute towards a cleaner environment for all, and within DFDS, we aim to reduce pollution, waste, and noise in the communities where we operate. We all have big potential to make a positive difference by reducing our environmental impact. We look forward to seeing the new and developing ideas implemented in the clubs.”
