New Award Announced for 2023

Following the success of the previous Kent FA Grassroots Workforce Awards, we are delighted to launch a new award for 2023, the Welfare Hero Award.

The Welfare Hero Award recognises and celebrates the achievements of our Clubs and Leagues’ Welfare Officers in promoting effective safeguarding practice, highlighting those that have gone above and beyond to develop a child-centred approach and provide an outstanding commitment and/or effort to safeguard young people/adults at risk.

Who should you nominate? This could be:

  • Someone who has continually gone above and beyond to safeguard and support children/adults at risk and young people within a club or league environment.
  • Someone who has created a positive environment that encourages young people/adults at risk to have fun and enjoy their football experience.
  • Someone proactive in utilising FA initiatives (Play Safe weekend / Respect programme/Enough is Enough/ Silent weekend) to improve the playing experience for young people/adults at risk.

Head of Safeguarding at Kent FA, Lucy Kidd, comments on why these awards are so important: "This award aims to recognise and celebrate the often unnoticed work that league and club welfare officers do to ensure a safe, positive, and inclusive playing environment for all players across Kent. It is a fantastic opportunity to thank our dedicated Kent Welfare Officers for all they do to keep the game safe across the county."
