Kent fall to defeat on return to Representative action

Kent FA 1 Middlesex FA 3

Kent FA Women’s Representative Team returned to action for the first time since February 2020 as they travelled to face Middlesex FA at Ashford Town FC.

Despite steady rainfall throughout the days leading up to the match, the pitch was in good condition, with the game kicking off in light rain.

It was a slow start by the Kent team, which was understanding in the circumstances, and Middlesex took full advantage by taking an early in a somewhat unfortunate fashion through an own goal. The hosts continued to be on the front foot for the early stages, but Kent gradually grew into the match. Middlesex had a chance to double their lead when they were awarded a penalty, but the resulting spot kick went over the bar.

With halftime approaching, Kent grabbed their opportunity and equalised through a Chloe Francis free kick. Sadly, this lead was evaporated in the first-half injury time when Middlesex retook the lead with a superb long-range lob.

Heavy rain arrived for the start of the second half, but both teams continued to try and play football in testing conditions. It was a much more even second half, with both goalkeepers excelling throughout. With time ticking down, Kent pushed forward, searching for an equaliser, only to be caught out on the break by their hosts, who increased their lead with a well-taken goal. Chances came and went for both teams in the remaining minutes, but Middlesex claimed the victory.

Whilst it was a defeat for the Kent side, it was very pleasing to see how the team played and incredible to see the Kent FA Women’s team back in representative action.

The next match is a Home game against Army FA on Wednesday, 29th November, at Corinthian FC. Kick-off is 8.00 pm.

Squad: Courtney Shanly, Becky Burnham, Abbey Davies, Vicky Grieve, Mille Waud, Milly Penfold, Amy Russ ©, Hannah Corlett, Kaydance Kabadaki, Chloe Francis, Becky Wyatt, Analice Linsdall.

We would also like to say a big thank you to Bayliss Executive Travel for taking the team to their first game of the season.
