Eighth Wonder Programme

We are delighted to confirm that Eighth Wonder is back and delivering a Development Day with Kent FA on Friday 29th October 2021 at Bromley Football Club.

The event which takes place during half-term from 10am-4pm, offers 14-20-year olds a unique opportunity to break into the world of football.

Eighth WonderIn partnership with the Kent FA and Bromley FC’s Community Trust, the programme will welcome its fourth batch of future female football leaders.

Since the programme launched back in 2016, hundreds of participants have benefited from the scheme. From development days to coaching courses, the upcoming event later this year should offer another day full of development sessions and workshops.

Those who sign up for the Eighth Wonder Programme receive a day of in-depth training and personal development, they will then be placed on a mentoring scheme, providing them with support and guidance to contribute to Kent's volunteer workforce.

Participants are provided with unique opportunities to obtain experience; whether as a coach, administrator, marketer, journalist or any other role within the game. After two years without such an event due to COVID-19, we are looking forward to welcoming even more young women to reap the rewards.

Charlotte Richardson of Eighth Wonder Programme passionately explains: “It’s been a really tough period for lots of people involved within the game, especially for those within this age range who have had their school and further education routine disrupted as well. I think lots of us have missed the game, appreciated it differently and perhaps thought about what we want to do with our futures a little more. It makes the timing of this event especially pertinent, and I can’t wait to welcome the girls to Bromley FC, a perfect backdrop of ambition and vision, to learn what football can offer in so many different capacities. I’m grateful to Bromley FC and Bromley FC Community Trust for partnering with us for this event. It’s the first time we’ve hosted a day like this, in this part of the county, and I think we will provide something a little different for them. I’m also incredibly  thankful to the Kent FA who have supported this ground-breaking approach to engage girls with volunteering and careers in football, to see the impact it’s having is pleasing and I really hope we can get another event full.”

Supporting Eighth Wonder is Kent FA’s very own Football Development Officer (Women & Girls), Natalie Curtis, who says: “After an enforced online presence for the last year it is great to see us back face to face and engaging with the next generation of football leaders.  Our  development days have seen young women step in to Physiotherapy degrees, give thousands of hours in to volunteering at local clubs as well as inspiring those even younger then themselves to get playing or involved at the clubs. The 2021 Development Day will be a new format in the fact we are working in Partnership with Bromley FC to give a real insight in to the inner workings of a football club.  We are grateful for their support on this venture.  Kent FA is committed to supporting its workforce in numerous different ways and I am very fortunate to work alongside Eighth Wonder again to pull an amazing and worthwhile event together.”
