Addicks lift Kent Senior Cup

A strong Charlton Athletic team took the Kent Senior Cup in emphatic style last night with a 7-1 win against Tonbridge Angels.

Both sides struggled initially with the dry surface which but it was Charlton who settled the quicker and went ahead on 13 minutes when a ball across the Tonbridge box ended with Jordan Cook poking home.  Less than a minute later the Tonbridge found themselves two goals down when, after losing possession from the kick-off, Michael Smith scored the first of what would be 4 goals on the night.

Tonbridge, looking demoralised by the two goals, struggled to establish a rhythm against a slick and active Charlton side whose movement was excellent all night and the Angels found themselves a further goal down on 30 minutes when Kevin Feely headed in a routine corner.

Tonbridge came out for the second half with renewed vigour and looked to be mounting a comeback when three minutes into the half Ollie Bankole, man of the match in Tonbridge’s recent Kent Intermediate Cup win, pulled a goal back.

The comeback was short-lived however, with the excellent Smith adding a further two goals to bring up his hat-trick before an unfortunate Tonbridge own-goal took the score to 6-1.  With two minutes remaining, Smith added his fourth of the day and Charlton’s seventh to complete a comprehensive win and give Smith the man-of-the-match award.
