Kent Secure Place In Second Round
Kent FA 2-1 Guernsey FA
Goals from Jamie Watson and Hamid Ishola earned Kent U18’s a 2-1 win over Guernsey FA in the 1st Round of the FA County Youth Cup.
Keen to bounce back from Wednesday’s defeat at the hands of Essex, Kent started off on the front foot and won the early midfield battle with Harrison Pont dictating play. Guernsey slowly got back into the game and were proving dangerous going forwards, this prompted a change of formation for Kent to counteract the attacks from the visitors.
The opening goal came in the 17th minute, Perri Iandolo’s corner was headed home by Jamie Watson for his first goal in Kent colours. The lead was doubled just two minutes later, George Nikaj played a superb through ball for Hamid Ishola who used his pace and power to burst clear and slot beyond the onrushing keeper. Harrison Pont was the next to try his luck and his shot was well saved as Kent ended the half strongly with George Nikaj seeing his shot blocked. Kent went into the interval with a 2-0 lead.
Straight from the kick off in the second half Kent continued their efforts on the visitor’s goal, Perri Iandolo saw his effort come back off the post after good work from Hamid Ishola and a minute later Iandolo was denied by the Guernsey keeper. On the hour mark both Hamid Ishola & George Nikaj had chances to increase the lead for Kent but their efforts were well saved whilst at the other end Kyle McLeish made a great save to deny Guernsey a goal back. Perri Iandolo fired over when well placed as the match became stretched with both teams attacking. Guernsey pulled a goal back with just over ten minutes remaining to set up a tense finish. The post again came to the visitors rescue when Harrison Pont found George Nikaj in space but his shot struck the upright and bounced to safety then moments later Jamie Watson was denied his second goal of the match when his header was cleared off the line. In the last-minute George Nikaj fired inches wide after being played in by Perri Iandolo as Kent looked to close out the match, but moments later the Referee blew the final whistle to send Kent though to the 2nd Round and a tie against Essex FA on Sunday 8th December.
