Kent Start With Victory

Kent FA 2-0 London FA

Goals from Scott Jarvis & Craig Appleby gave Kent the perfect start to their South East Youth Counties Championship campaign with a 2-0 win over London FA at Corinthian FC.

Keen to bounce back from a disappointing exit from the FA County Youth Cup against Gloucestershire, the Kent team started very much on the front foot with strikers George Robinson and Ryan Kingsford looking very lively. The first chance of the match came in the 9th minute when George Robinson fired narrowly wide of the visitors goal, Beau Landau will feel he possible should’ve done better when he missed the target moments later and then George Robinson combined with Freddie Entwistle with the former seeing his shot fly over the bar. Cameron Williams, George Porter and Baily Sinnock looked solid at the heart of the Kent defence with Scott Jarvis and debutant Jake Sundborg getting forward as often as possible. Just before the half hour mark and Kent created yet another great chance as Beau Landau set up George Robinson only to see his header go just past the post. Kent eventually got the goal their play deserved and it came in the 36th minute, George Robinson again heavily involved in the action as his delightful pass found Scott Jarvis who produced an exquisite finish to put Kent 1-0 up. Kent took a deserved lead into the halftime interval.

The second half was only a matter of minutes old when London had their first real chance of the match, Omar Belazareque being denied by Wayne Everest in the Kent goal. Kent then increased their lead just after the hour mark when substitute Craig Appleby found the back of the net. A third goal for Kent nearly came on 68 minutes but Freddie Entwistle’s effort was saved and then it was the turn of Kent Goalkeeper Wayne Everest to make a great save as he denied Omar Belzareque who was a constant danger for the visitors. Further chances for Kent fell to Jacob Gilbert & George Robinson but the score remained at 2-0. Solid defending ensured Kent kept a clean sheet as they managed the last few minutes of the match very professionally to secure all three points.
